[In a few strides Eagle closes the distance between them, bringing his blade to bare on his former friend… willing Lantis to draw his sword to defend himself. ]

[Rather than drawing his sword, Lantis leaps out of the way and lands easily several feet away.]

[Not about to allow Lantis to escape so easily, Eagle momentarily shuts his weapon off only to unleash a burst of pent up laser energy from it a instant later. This fresh attack crosses the distance instantaneously… ]

[That prompts him to draw his sword and call out the command for a shield. But no sooner has he done that than the sword is out of sight again. He won't allow Eagle to have enough time to scan it.]

[Even if it hadn’t been for very long that Lantis had been forced to draw his weapon at all was a victory that caused a smirk to appear on Eagle’s face.

Before the barrier Lantis had cast was even totally faded, Eagle once again had closed the gap between them. When he swung his weapon this time it the weapon carried the full weight and power of momentum behind it. Really it was an attack more in Hikaru’s kendo style than the style Eagle usually fought in… coming down at Lantis from above rather than from any one side… ]

[Frowning, he moves out of the way again because that's really the best he can do. But Lantis also stays close to Eagle to make movement difficult for him.]

Eagle. Enough.

If you want to surrender then draw your sword!


[Eagle is best at close quarter fighting… and you didn’t move far enough away to be out of the reach of Eagle’s blade. As Lantis steps out of the way, Eagle pivots bringing his light weapon to bare on Lantis’s fleeing left arm. A gash… then blood… a minor wound really, but hopefully the wake up call Eagle had been hoping for.
The Commander firms his stance watching the result of his attack carefully… and adding a verbal warning.]

If you don’t fight me seriously Lantis, you could end up dead.

[Backing off, he looks at the wound and notes that it isn't serious. It will need to be taken care of, yes, but he'll be fine for now.

Looking away from it, Lantis levels his attention towards Eagle but his weapon stays sheathed.]

I am not here to fight you.

[There is a pause… a slight frown… but ultimately… ]

If that is the stance you intend to take then I should have very little trouble in defeating you.

[Eagle sweeps his weapon forcing Lantis to step sideways or once more be struck with the light blade. This action was followed by several more sweeps in rapid succession, each strike driving Lantis a little further away.
Then with his hidden left arm, Eagle calls out a second weapon. Tiny filaments of wire fly out at the retreating opponent… wrapping themselves tightly around Lantis’s legs. With a sudden leap backward Eagle yanks these filaments, pulling the taller man off his balance and sending him crashing onto the dry hard Earth. ]

[The dodges are easy but he also remembers how Eagle fights. At the last moment, he shifts away to keep away from the filaments and then further backwards towards a tree so he can leap up into the branches.

He didn't come here to fight and he will stand by that. But he also won't allow Eagle to satisfy himself by seeing if his sword is the one he wants.]

[He could pursue Lantis up into this tree… but really, why bother? A small explosive bead dropped at the base of the tree, followed by a loud explosion… and the tree and its occupant was soon falling to the ground. ]

[Leaping to the next tree, he ignores the damage done to the other as he heads away from the fight while using the branches to his advantage. To keep off the ground, to make aiming at him difficult, and so on. Lantis spares only one glance back to Eagle to show him a quiet look that actually doesn't fault him.

He's no coward here but he won't fight a battle that shouldn't be fought. So he retreats as quickly as possible so he can lose Eagle.]

So unlike the Lantis from my timeline…


[Said to himself as he watched this version of Lantis flee the battlefield.
Eagle decided to let him go instead of pursuing the matter further right now. He would often engage enemies to test how they fought and then sit back to analyze the results. Besides he had never expected taking Lantis’s sword to be as easy as taking Clef’s ring had been. ]

[Were this Cephiro, things might have been different. He might have fought him. But here, he knows it best to avoid that. Besides that, his goal is to keep Eagle from becoming the Pillar. If his sword is capable of such things then the priority is to keep it from Eagle.]
